Some people are curious to know what a day in the life of a police officer consists of. Others have an appreciation for the job, but know it’s just not for them. As police officers, we often deal with sick, combative, or intoxicated individuals who are less than delighted to see us. We most often see people at their worst and deal with those who have slipped through the cracks of society.
Often we are placed in harms way and in situations where most people would be compelled to run away. We also have to justify our split second decisions on the witness stand, while being grilled by the defense attorney. Often this is on only a few hours sleep, after pulling a late-night shift. This type of duty creates a whole different type of stress that many don’t think about.
We don’t get many thank you’s from our “clients,” but recognize the higher calling and sense of duty to our community. We also don’t ask for much in return, except for a secure retirement and fair wage. Some retired officers would say the missed birthdays and family events come at too high a price. That said we do the job anyway, hoping to make a small difference in this world.
Remember, because of the everyday dangers of the job, it is difficult to recruit peace officers.
We hope our community understands what it’s like to do this “impossible” job, one that most would never even consider doing. We ask for your support and hope this video gives you but a small glimpse into what it’s really like to be a cop.
